Re: Child & Youth Worker — Day Treatment Programs

Dear Hiring Committee,

I am writing to express my sincere interest in the Child & Youth Worker position with the George Hull Centre's Day Treatment Programs. As a Child and Youth Care practitioner completing my Advanced Diploma at Sheridan College, with direct experience supporting children, youth, and families through complex mental health and developmental needs, I am eager to contribute to a team providing a full continuum of care to young people across Etobicoke.

Much of my hands-on experience comes from my work as a Prime Worker at the Dilico Anishinabek Family Care Centre, where I provided direct support and case management to children, youth, and families in a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed manner. A central part of that role was working alongside Indigenous youth — building trusting relationships, developing individualized care plans, and coordinating services with multidisciplinary teams to meet each young person's needs. I conducted assessments, monitored progress, and documented interactions in line with organizational and regulatory standards, and I regularly advocated for clients by connecting families to mental health services, community resources, and educational supports. This work taught me to meet young people where they are, to honour their culture and lived experience, and to stay steady and compassionate in fast-paced, emotionally demanding settings.

These experiences align closely with what your Day Treatment Programs require. I am comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and I bring well-developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills from documenting care, facilitating youth workshops, and collaborating with families and colleagues. My work with children and youth — including school-age and adolescent young people — has given me practical grounding in child and adolescent development, behaviour management, and crisis de-escalation, all of which are essential to supporting students with mental health challenges as they move between school settings.

I am especially drawn to the George Hull Centre because of its commitment to diversity, equity, anti-racism, and inclusion. My practice is strength-based and culturally responsive, and my time supporting Indigenous children and families has deepened my belief that effective care begins with respect for each person's identity, community, and story. I would be proud to bring that approach to your team and to the students you serve.

Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience and commitment to young people's wellbeing can support your Day Treatment Programs. I can be reached at (647) 938-6336 or mclsaman@shernet.sheridancollege.ca, and I have enclosed my resume for your review.

Sincerely,
Samantha McLean
